First Friday lights up Historic Main Street tomorrow evening, the Longhorns open the 3A state playoffs in Gilbert Friday night, the Howlin' at the Moon dual-sport weekend rolls through town Saturday and Sunday, and the week closes with Payson's 25th annual Veterans Day ceremony Wednesday morning. In between, the Rim Country rhythm keeps humming: story times and Sit & Stitch at the library, fish fries and bingo at the Legion and the Elks, a Town Council meeting Tuesday, and the NAMI Payson support group Wednesday evening. As a local Realtor who covers Payson, Star Valley, Christopher Creek, and the rest of Rim Country, I went through the town, library, Legion, Elks, chamber, and Arizona Trail Riders calendars and pulled together everything I could confirm for the week of November 5 through 11, laid out day by day, with a link to each event's source so you can verify details before you head out. Small-town schedules can shift, so a quick check with the organizer is always the smart move.

Thursday, November 5
Family Story Time at Payson Public Library (10:30 AM). The library at 328 North McLane Road hosts its free weekly Family Story Time Thursday mornings. It is a quiet, welcoming anchor of the town's weekly rhythm and an easy way to meet other parents. See the full schedule on the library's upcoming events page.
Queen of Hearts drawing at American Legion Post 69 (6:00 PM). Post 69 at 709 East Highway 260 holds its weekly Queen of Hearts drawing Thursday evening, with the kitchen open from noon to 6:00 PM. A fun midweek stop and an easy way to support the post, listed on the Legion's website.
Friday, November 6
First Friday on Historic Main Street (evening). Downtown Payson's monthly First Friday returns Friday evening on Historic Main Street, a low-key gathering of local vendors, live music, food, and neighbors. The Payson events listing at Mountain Bear Homes describes the usual first-Friday lineup, and the Adventure Payson events calendar is the place to watch for the evening's specifics.
Friday Fun Programs at Payson Public Library (1:00 PM). The library's Friday Fun Programs continue in the Small Meeting Room, with sign-up encouraged for the afternoon activity. Details are on the library's upcoming events page.
Friday Fish Fry at American Legion Post 69 (noon to 8:00 PM). Post 69 serves its weekly fish fry with fries, coleslaw, and a hot biscuit through the afternoon and evening. A long-running community staple, listed on the Legion's website.
Friday Night Fish Fry at Payson Elks Lodge (5:30 to 7:00 PM). Elks Lodge #2154 at 1206 North Beeline Highway serves beer-battered fish plus a weekly special entree Friday evening. The lodge posts its menu and lineup on paysonelks.com.
Payson Longhorns at Gilbert Christian, 3A State Playoffs (7:00 PM). The Longhorns take the postseason stage Friday night, traveling to Gilbert Christian for a 7:00 PM first-round game in the AIA 3A state tournament. It is a long drive down the hill, so fans who cannot make the trip can follow along from home. The Arizona Republic's Nov. 5-7 picks preview the matchup, and MaxPreps has the preview and how to watch.
Saturday, November 7
Howlin' at the Moon, day one: 17th annual National Dual Sport (Nov. 7-8). The Arizona Trail Riders host Howlin' at the Moon, an AMA National Dual Sport event based in Payson, running Saturday and Sunday. Even if you are not riding, it is a fun weekend to see adventure bikes staged around town and to catch good stories at dinner. Registration, route details, and the official schedule are on the Arizona Trail Riders event page.
No farmers market until spring. The Payson Farmers Market wrapped its 2026 Saturday season on September 12 at Sawmill Crossing, so the lot is quiet while the ride is on. It typically returns in the spring, and the market's page at Adventure Payson will carry next season's dates.
Sunday, November 8
Howlin' at the Moon, day two. The dual-sport weekend continues Sunday; check the Arizona Trail Riders page for Sunday's start times.
Sunday Bingo at Payson Elks Lodge (1:00 to 4:30 PM). Doors open at 11:00 AM and games run from 1:00 to 4:30 PM at Elks Lodge #2154, with an all-day play package and a hot dog special. A low-key community fundraiser that has been a Payson tradition for years, posted on paysonelks.com.
Sunday jam at The Oxbow (3:00 to 8:00 PM). The Oxbow Saloon at 607 West Main Street hosts its weekly Sunday jam session, a relaxed live-music afternoon on Historic Main Street. Lineups post close to the weekend, so check the Oxbow's Facebook page before you go.
Monday, November 9
Sit & Stitch at Payson Public Library (2:30 PM). Crafters gather Monday afternoons for Sit & Stitch, a relaxed, drop-in stitching circle open to all skill levels, per the library's upcoming events page.
Bar Bingo at Payson Elks Lodge (6:00 PM). The Elks follow Sunday bingo with Bar Bingo Monday evening, with the lounge opening at 3:00 PM and burgers and fries on the menu. Another easy, friendly way to support the lodge, per paysonelks.com.
Tuesday, November 10
Payson Town Council regular meeting (4:00 to 6:00 PM). The council holds its regular meeting Tuesday afternoon in the Town Council Chambers at Payson Town Hall, 303 North Beeline Highway. Agendas post ahead of each meeting on the Town Council meetings and agendas page, with the full town calendar on the Town of Payson community calendar.
Taco Tuesday at American Legion Post 69 (4:00 to 7:00 PM). Post 69 serves its weekly Taco Tuesday, an inexpensive community dinner, with the dart league getting going at 5:00 PM. It is on the Legion's website.
Preschool Storytime with Toddlers at the library (10:30 AM). The library's Tuesday morning story time returns in the Small Meeting Room, per the library's upcoming events page.
A note from a Navy veteran. Tuesday is also the 251st birthday of the United States Marine Corps. I never let November 10 pass without a word of appreciation for the Marines in this community. And if you are a veteran thinking about buying in Rim Country, my guide to Veterans Day, VA loans, and buying here lays out how the benefit works in plain English.
Wednesday, November 11: Veterans Day
25th annual Veterans Day Ceremony (9:30 AM). Payson honors its veterans at the 25th annual ceremony in the Payson High School auditorium, 301 South McLane Road, with music, tributes, and a presentation of the colors, presented by the Payson Patriotic Events Committee. The community is welcome. The Payson Roundup has the full details, and I also put together a Veterans Day guide with local resources and the VA loan breakdown.
Federal holiday note. Veterans Day is a federal holiday, so banks, the post office, and Payson town offices close for the day. Plan errands accordingly, and plan to be at the ceremony.
Storytime with Babies at the library (10:30 AM). The library's Wednesday morning baby story time normally runs in the Small Meeting Room; given the holiday, confirm it is on before heading over, on the library's upcoming events page.
NAMI Payson Combined Support Group (5:30 to 6:30 PM). NAMI Payson hosts a free, weekly combined support group for family members and peers every Wednesday evening at the NAMI Payson Community Support Center, 308 East Aero Drive, led by trained peer leaders and open to all. Details are on the NAMI Payson support groups page.
Looking Ahead
Two dates worth circling now that the holidays are in sight. The Turkey Trot returns to Green Valley Park on Thanksgiving morning, November 26, and Payson's Elks serve their free community Thanksgiving dinner the same day; my November guide has the rundown, and the Adventure Payson calendar will carry confirmations. Then Winter Wonderland and the Electric Light Parade light up Historic Main Street on December 12, a week to look forward to; the Electric Light Parade page has the details, and my Rim Country holiday events guide covers the whole season.

Whether you are cheering on the Longhorns, grabbing a bingo card, or standing for the presentation of colors, I hope you get out and enjoy this stretch of fall in the pines. And if the week makes you wonder what it would be like to call this place home, I would love to show you around, and I will always lay out the pros and cons honestly so you can decide what fits you.
