Historic Main Street in Payson, Arizona at dusk in late October, with glowing storefronts, carved jack-o'-lanterns, string lights, and the Mogollon Rim in the distance

The pumpkins are glowing on Main Street and Election Day is just around the corner: this is one of the fullest weeks on the Rim Country calendar. From the Payson Fly Casters' free workshop Thursday evening to the Longhorns' regular-season finale in Show Low Friday night, the Elks' Annual Charity Ball on Halloween, Gila County's vote centers on Election Day Tuesday, and the chamber's Breakfast Club on Wednesday, there is something for almost everyone in Payson, Star Valley, and the surrounding mountain communities. As a local Realtor who covers Payson, Star Valley, Christopher Creek, and the rest of Rim Country, I went through the town, library, chamber, Legion, Elks, and NAMI calendars and pulled together everything I could confirm for the week of October 29 through November 4, laid out day by day, with a link to each event's source so you can verify details before you head out. Small-town schedules can shift, so a quick check with the organizer is always the smart move.

Family Story Time and Baby Laptime at Payson Public Library (10:30 AM). The library at 328 North McLane Road hosts its free weekly Family Story Time on Thursday mornings, and Baby Laptime also runs at 10:30 for the littlest readers. It is the quiet anchor of the town's weekly rhythm and an easy way to meet other parents. See the full schedule on the library's events page.

Queen of Hearts drawing at American Legion Post 69 (6:00 PM). Post 69 at 709 East Highway 260 hosts its weekly Queen of Hearts drawing Thursday evening, with the kitchen open from noon to 6:00 PM. A fun midweek stop and an easy way to support the post, listed on the Legion's website.

Evening Fly Fishing Workshop with Payson Fly Casters (6:00 to 7:30 PM). The last-Thursday-of-the-month workshop is free and open to everyone, held at Tiny's Family Restaurant in Payson. Experienced club members offer fly tying tutoring, show what a fly rod is and how it works, and help beginners pick a starter rod and reel. It is a genuinely welcoming introduction to one of Rim Country's best pastimes, and the club's events page has the details.

Friday, October 30

Friday Fish Fry at American Legion Post 69 (noon to 8:00 PM). Post 69 serves its weekly fish fry with fries, coleslaw, and a hot biscuit through the afternoon and evening, a long-running community staple that draws neighbors and veterans alike. It is listed on the Legion's website.

Friday Night Fish Fry and Live Music at Payson Elks Lodge (5:30 to 7:30 PM). Elks Lodge #2154 at 1206 North Beeline Highway serves beer-battered fish plus a weekly special entree Friday evening, with Friday Night Live music accompanying dinner. A warm, low-key night out, and the lodge posts its menu and lineup on paysonelks.com and the Elks calendar.

Sit & Stitch at Payson Public Library (2:00 to 5:00 PM). Crafters gather at the library Friday afternoons for Sit & Stitch, a relaxed, drop-in stitching circle open to all skill levels. Details are on the library's events page.

Payson Longhorns at Show Low (7:00 PM). The Longhorns close the regular season on the road Friday night, traveling to Show Low for a 7:00 PM kickoff. It is a long trip across the rim, so fans who cannot make the drive can follow along from home. The full schedule is on MaxPreps, with the team page on azpreps365.

Friday Night Karaoke at Johnny's Midtown Yard (7:00 to 10:00 PM). In Star Valley at 3870 AZ-260, Johnny's Midtown Yard hosts its Friday night karaoke party, a fun, social way to cap the week ahead of Halloween. Details are on the venue's site.

Saturday, October 31: Halloween in Rim Country

Trick-or-treating around the neighborhoods. Payson does not set official trick-or-treat hours, so families typically head out once the sun drops, roughly 5:30 to 6:00 PM, and wind down by 8:30 to 9:00 PM. The big town bash, the Monster Mash, took over Green Valley Park a week earlier, so Halloween night itself is the classic neighborhood crawl. Check trickortreattimes.com and the Adventure Payson events calendar as the date approaches, and drive slowly through the residential streets.

Elks Annual Charity Ball (evening). Payson Elks Lodge #2154 caps October with its Annual Charity Ball on Halloween night, a fundraiser worth dressing up for. The Elks announcement has the details.

No farmers market until spring. The Payson Farmers Market wrapped its 2026 Saturday season on September 12 at Sawmill Crossing, so the lot is quiet this Saturday. It typically returns in the spring, and the market's site will carry next season's dates.

Sunday, November 1

Sunday Bingo at Payson Elks Lodge (1:00 to 4:30 PM). Doors open at 11:00 AM and games run from 1:00 to 4:30 PM at Elks Lodge #2154, with an all-day play package and a hot dog special. A low-key community fundraiser that has been a Payson tradition for years, posted on paysonelks.com.

Sunday jam at The Oxbow (3:00 to 8:00 PM). The Oxbow Saloon at 607 West Main Street hosts its weekly Sunday jam session, a relaxed live-music afternoon on Historic Main Street. Lineups post close to the weekend, so check the Oxbow's Facebook page before you go.

Monday, November 2

Bar Bingo at Payson Elks Lodge (6:00 PM). The Elks follow Sunday bingo with Bar Bingo Monday evening, with the lounge opening at 3:00 PM and burgers and fries on the menu. Another easy, friendly way to support the lodge, per paysonelks.com.

American Legion SAL Monthly Meeting (6:00 PM). Post 69 hosts its Sons of the American Legion monthly meeting Monday evening, a first-Monday tradition for anyone interested in getting involved. See the Legion's meeting schedule.

Tuesday, November 3: Election Day

General Election in Arizona (polls 6:00 AM to 7:00 PM). Tuesday is Election Day statewide, and Gila County runs vote centers where any registered county voter can cast a ballot. In Payson: Vote Center #1 at Expedition Church, 302 South Ash Street; Vote Center #2 at First Payson Church of the Nazarene, 200 East Tyler Parkway; and Vote Center #3 at Mt. Cross Lutheran Church, 601 East Highway 260. In Star Valley, the vote center is at Rim View Community Church, 4180 East Highway 260. Confirm your polling place and bring a valid ID using the Gila County polling place list, with statewide details on the Arizona Secretary of State's 2026 election page.

Taco Tuesday at American Legion Post 69 (4:00 to 7:00 PM). Post 69 serves its weekly Taco Tuesday, an inexpensive community dinner, with dart league play getting going at 5:00 PM. It is on the Legion's website.

Taco Tuesday at Payson Elks Lodge (4:30 to 6:30 PM). The Elks run their own Tuesday taco night across town, so you have two good options if a taco sounds right after you vote. It is on the lodge's calendar.

Wednesday, November 4

Chamber Breakfast Club at the Rim Country Regional Chamber (morning). The chamber's monthly Breakfast Club continues Wednesday morning, with this month's session getting to know Payson Parks, Recreation and Tourism. The confirmed time and location post on the chamber's events calendar, so check there before you go. Note that the Payson Town Council does not hold a regular meeting this week; the November council meetings fall on November 11 and 25 per the council meeting schedule.

NAMI Payson Combined Support Group (5:30 to 6:30 PM). NAMI Payson hosts a free, weekly combined support group for family members and peers every Wednesday evening at the NAMI Payson Community Support Center, 308 East Aero Drive. It is led by trained peer leaders, open to all, and part of a vital community resource. Details are on the NAMI Payson support groups page.

One to Watch Beyond This Week

The Dreamboats at Payson High School (Tuesday, November 17, 7:00 PM). The 1950s and 1960s rock and roll revue comes to the Longhorn Theatre at Payson High School, 301 South McLane Road, on Tuesday, November 17. Tickets and details are on the band's shows page. And a week before that, the town gathers Wednesday, November 11 for the 25th annual Veterans Day ceremony at the Payson High School auditorium at 9:30 AM, which I wrote about here.
