This week in Rim Country stacks up as one of the fullest mid-October calendars in a while, and almost all of it lands on Friday. Lanterns on the Lake returns to Green Valley Park, the Rim Country Chamber of Commerce mixer moves to The Rim Golf Club, American Legion Post 69 serves its Friday fish fry, and the Payson Longhorns host the Thatcher Eagles under the lights at Payson High School, all in the same day. As a local Realtor who covers Payson, Star Valley, Christopher Creek, and the surrounding mountain communities, I went through the chamber, town, library, American Legion, Elks, and school calendars and pulled together everything I could confirm for the week of October 15 through October 22, 2026, laid out by day. Small-town schedules can shift, so a quick check with the organizer before you head out is always the smart move.

Thursday, October 15
Family Story Time at Payson Public Library (10:30 AM). The library at 328 North McLane Road hosts its free weekly Family Story Time on Thursday mornings, with picture books and a craft for families. It is the quiet, dependable anchor of the town's weekly rhythm and an easy way to meet other parents.
Friday, October 16
Lanterns on the Lake at Green Valley Park (4:00 PM). Time Out Shelter, Payson's domestic-violence shelter, hosts the fifth annual Lanterns on the Lake at Green Valley Lake this evening. Food trucks and face painting open at 4:00 PM, lantern decorating gets going around 4:30, and the evening builds toward a lakeside ceremony honoring victims and survivors of domestic violence as the light fades. It is a meaningful community fundraiser and a genuinely beautiful evening at one of Payson's best parks.
Chamber Mixer at The Rim Golf Club (5:00 PM). The Rim Country Regional Chamber of Commerce holds its October mixer Friday evening at The Rim Golf Club, a relaxed chance to catch up with the local business community. It is listed on the chamber's Eventbrite feed, and a quick check with the chamber confirms the details.
Friday Fish Fry at American Legion Post 69 (noon to 8:00 PM). Post 69 at 709 East Highway 260 serves its weekly fish fry through the afternoon and evening, a long-running community staple that draws neighbors and veterans alike.
Payson Longhorns vs. Thatcher (7:00 PM). Payson High School's varsity football team hosts the Thatcher Eagles at 7:00 PM at Payson High School, the first home game after last week's bye. Friday-night lights in a small mountain town is its own kind of event, and the stands fill up, so plan on arriving a little early if you want a good seat.
Saturday, October 17
Arizona Archaeological Society, Rim Country Chapter (10:00 AM). The chapter holds its third-Saturday meeting at the Payson Public Library, free and open to the public. It is a great window into the archaeology of the Rim Country region and a reminder of how much history sits in the ground around us.
No farmers market this week. The Payson Farmers Market wrapped its 2026 Saturday season on September 12 at Sawmill Crossing, so the lot stays quiet this Saturday. It typically returns in the spring, and this year's run was the biggest yet.
Sunday, October 18
Sunday Bingo at Payson Elks Lodge (1:00 to 4:30 PM). Elks Lodge #2154 at 1206 North Beeline Highway hosts its weekly Sunday bingo session with an all-day card package. It is a low-key community fundraiser that has been a Payson tradition for years.
Otherwise, a slow day, by design. Nothing else is confirmed on the town calendars for Sunday, which in late October is not a bad thing. The aspens are at or near peak on the rim right now, and my leaf-peeping guide has the best drives and pullouts for when the gold is at its best.
Monday, October 19
Movie Matinee and Sit and Stitch at Payson Public Library (2:30 PM). The library runs its free Monday Movie Matinee and the Sit and Stitch gathering on Monday afternoons, a good pair of ways to spend a cooler afternoon. Check the library's events page for the week's title.
Bar Bingo at Payson Elks Lodge (6:00 PM). The Elks follow Sunday with Bar Bingo Monday evening, another easy, friendly way to support the lodge.
Tuesday, October 20
Taco Tuesday at American Legion Post 69. Post 69 serves its weekly Taco Tuesday, an inexpensive community dinner and a good chance to thank the folks who keep the post running.
Wednesday, October 21
Storytime Babies at Payson Public Library (10:30 AM). Board books, songs, wiggles, and coffee for the youngest library users, every Wednesday morning. It is a zero-pressure way to get out of the house with a little one.
No town council meeting this week. Payson's council meets on the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month, and with the October sessions falling on the 14th and the 28th, there is no meeting this Wednesday. If you are following Longhorn Ranch, the highway projects, or anything else shaping town growth, mark Wednesday, October 28, at 4:00 PM in the council chambers at Town Hall, 303 North Beeline Highway.
Thursday, October 22
Family Story Time at Payson Public Library (10:30 AM). The library's weekly Family Story Time returns Thursday morning with picture books and a craft, the quiet bookend to a week that started the same way.
One to Watch Beyond This Week
Monster Mash at Green Valley Park (Saturday, October 24). The annual family Halloween celebration brings costumes, games, and community fun to Green Valley Park next Saturday, per the Adventure Payson calendar. The Payson Elks also cap the month with their Annual Charity Ball on Halloween night, a fundraiser worth putting on the calendar. My fall events roundup and my October guide have the regional lineup for the month ahead. For anything that gets added midweek, the Rim Country Regional Chamber calendar and the Town of Payson community calendar are the two best sources.
What This Week Tells Us About Rim Country
Friday is the headline, and it shows off what makes this community tick. In one afternoon you can wander a park full of food trucks and glowing lanterns for a cause, shake hands with the business community at the golf club, grab a fish fry at the Legion, and then cheer on the Longhorns under the lights. That is the whole town in a single day, and it is exactly the kind of thing that makes people fall for Payson.
On the market front, the story is the one I keep coming back to in my late-summer market update: inventory is healthy across Payson and Rim Country, days on market have lengthened, and this fall remains one of the most buyer-friendly stretches this market has offered in years. With the first hard freeze creeping closer, the winterizing checklist in my cabin checklist is worth an afternoon if you own a seasonal place.
